Skywatchers are in for an end-of-year treat. What has become known popularly as the "Christmas Star" is an especially vibrant planetary conjunction easily visible in the evening sky over the next two weeks as the bright planets Jupiter and Saturn come together, culminating on the night of Dec. 21.
On December 21, Jupiter and Saturn will appear closer in Earth's night sky than they have since 1226 A.D. You can watch the event live here, courtesy of Lowell Observatory.

2020 WINTER SOLSTICE with have Jupiter and Saturn will be so close they will look like a double planet on Dec. 21. This has not happened since March 4, 1226.
